是一种阴离子型表面活性剂，具有渗透快速、均匀、润湿性、乳化性、起泡性均佳等特点。不耐强酸、强碱、重金属盐及还原剂等。
可溶于水、低级醇等亲水性溶剂；亦可溶于苯、四氯化碳、煤油、石油系列溶剂等。水溶液呈乳白色，1%水溶液的pH值为5.0～7.0。
本品渗透快速均匀，用量少，是锡石矿优良的捕收剂，同时也是洗煤优选的起泡剂。‍
